How Is This My Life: Confessions of a Sane Single WomanHow Is This My Life: Confessions of a Sane Single Woman by J.R. Mason
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I don’t know if J.R. Mason is tied with or has me beat in the hilariously horrific dating life experience category. If it weren’t for app dating, I wouldn’t even have a dating life. Soooo many dead-end first dates don’t lead to a second. In many cases, we never even make it off the app!

I’m not usually in the habit of annotating books. A majority of the time I do it for self-help books, but I had to for this memoir. Most of the tabs are instances where I can relate to and/or DM’d her my comments. Thanks to the wonderful Bookstagram Universe, we’ve been virtual friends for nearly a year. Prior to reading her book, we swapped a few stories. Matter of fact, her book was in my TBR before we started following each other.

Can I relate to friends and family requesting dating anecdotes for their amusement? Yes.

Can I relate to dating men who do the absolute least but expect the most? Yes.

Can I relate to having an escape plan for bad dates? Yes.

Can I relate to dating men who were born and raised in these here United States of America and not being able to read, speak or text proper English to carry a conversation? Why, yes. Yes, I can.

Can I relate to having various nicknames for my lady parts? No. No, I can’t…well, kinda. 😊

Those of us still banished outchea know the dating pool is full of piss. I contend it’s full of floaters. (Gross? Yeah, well, wait until you read about the guy’s home that was so disgusting it gave her breathing problems during her one and only visit.) Somehow, J.R. (and I) still have the audacity of hope. There even seems to be a small glimmer at the end…We shall see what happens in the sequel, which I own and have already transferred my bookmark to start reading.

No spoilers here. Y’all will have to read about menfolks’ ridiculousness on your own. Be careful reading in public. You will have physical and audible reactions.

In the meantime between times, you can read about some of horrors of app dating in my three-part series:

App Dating Flashbacks Pt 1: Profiles
App Dating Flashbacks Pt 2: Photos
App Dating Flashbacks Pt 3: Communicating
