Let’s Get FitBit!

11/16/2016 by Sherring D.

I was sitting on my couch watching TV and minding my own business when the commercial came on and brainwashed me. The ad showed people getting alerts from their FitBits to go for walks. A woman lept from a bench at the bus stop just as the bus arrived and opted to walk instead after a “Let’s move!” message appeared on her FitBit; a man about to enter a crowded elevator looks at his FitBit and jaunts up the stairs […]

Blogging from A to Z Challenge: Theme Reveal

04/01/2016 by Sherring D.

In a recent post, Blogging is Hard, I lamented the sweet misery of blogging. I started my blog voluntarily, as a means of having a creative outlet and to practice my writing. I went into further debt getting a Masters in it, after all. My livelihood and well-being don’t depend on blogging, but unlike when I skip the gym, I don’t feel gross for not blogging, but like skipping the gym, I feel guilty and like a lazy failure. My mind […]

Turn the Page?

03/19/2016 by Sherring D.

I’ve wanted to read Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates for months. I read about it in magazines and online, spotted fellow commuters reading it and saw it listed as a National Book Award finalist. I remember seeing a paparazzi shot of Jill Scott carrying it outside of an airport. I figured I’d read it in due time. Translation: when it’s in paperback. I prefer to buy paperback over hardcover because of price and portability. I concede and […]

I Joined a Gym For All the Wrong Reasons

03/18/2016 by Sherring D.

Originally written in 2011 My former health insurance offered a $200 gym reimbursement to people who can prove 50 gym visits within a six-month period. This incentive didn’t make sense being my main motivation for dragging myself to the gym come hell or high water. $200 wasn’t even half of the total of six months of dues. My twisted mind reasoned that I’m getting over on them because I’m getting “free” money. I don’t know who them is, but I go […]

Blogging is Hard

03/01/2016 by Sherring D.

Blogging is hard. Much harder than I expected it to be. I was scared to dip into the blogosphere because I didn’t think there was a space or a lane for li’l ol’ me, even though my mind was always buzzing. I thought I’d be inspired to post intelligent, thoughtful, witty, or funny posts on a daily basis. I kept having experiences that I thought would make perfect blog posts, like trying a diet for the first time or getting free […]
